In our study of Hebrews we now come to one of the premier truths about the ministry of the Son, Jesus Christ.

In Heb. 1:3 we read, “After he had provided purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty in heaven.”

The first phrase of this sentence tells about the very purpose for the Son’s coming to earth.

When Adam sinned God’s Spirit, which resided in Adam departed the throne room in Adam’s human spirit.

Omniscient God knew this would occur; therefore, Precious, loving God had already formulated a plan in heaven whereby mankind would be ransomed from sin and given an opportunity to willfully chose to invite His Spirit to return and take up residence in the human spirit of man.

This was the eternal, redemption plan of Trinity God for humanity. The details were to remain a mystery through the ages, but insight into the plan is contained in most every book of the Old Testament.

Peter relates that the prophets searched intently and with great care, seeking to understand the time and circumstances to which God’s Spirit was pointing in predicting the suffering of Christ and the glories that would follow.

That means that God’s plan was not a secret from humanity, but in Scripture is referred to as a mystery, which had been kept hidden for ages and generations, but was disclosed to the saints at God’s chosen time. (Col. 1:26-27)

In speaking to his disciples Jesus told them that many prophets and righteous men, through the ages, longed to see what you are seeing and hear what you are hearing, without having that experience.

Paul wrote (Eph. 3:3-6) that those who read his letters would be able to understand his insight into the mystery of Christ, which had not been made known to men in other generations, but were given to him by revelation from Jesus; and has now been revealed to all men by the Spirit of God’s holy apostles and prophets.

Notice that the prophecies had now become a reality in the life, death and resurrection of Jesus, that Jesus himself had given Paul a divine revelation so that the facts and truth could accurately be passed to the newly founded Church. (Gal 1:12) It was important that people have an accurate view of God’s plan for purification from sin.

And now that it had become reality, now that the pure blood of sinless Jesus had been given for the purification of sins, now that faithful witness had been placed in key positions on earth, Jesus had completed all that was required of him on earth.

During the next forty days Jesus made at least ten appearances to people who knew him. In this way Jesus left a credible record on earth of all that was necessary for future generations to know.

Another provision which was opened by the purification for sins which Jesus made, was that all those Old Testament saints who had faith in the coming Messiah, were transported from the bosom of Abraham into the divine heavenly portals to be with God. Until their sins had been washed away by the blood of Jesus Christ, they were not welcomed into God’s holy presence.

Friends, the focus of the spotlights of eternity are upon the cross of Jesus Christ, because it was the blood of Jesus which came from his pure and sinless body which permitted sinful people of all ages to enter the presence of God. He was the only One qualified to pay that penalty. That was the purpose for the Son of God to become the Son of Man – to qualify to die for all people.

And having accomplished this purpose He sat down at the right hand of the Father God, the Majestic One, in heaven.

Scripture is resplendent in declaring that the Son is now exalted above every ruler and authority, glorified over all power and dominion; and has been given a name ennobled over every title that can be given in the present and future ages.

“Ascribe to the Lord the glory due his name; worship the Lord in the splendor of his holiness.” (Ps. 29:2)
