7500 - Rodney Woo - Learning from Suffering

An interview with Dr. Rodney Woo, the head pastor at Wilcrest Baptist Church and a New Testament professor at Houston Baptist University and Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary.

Listen as Rodney shares his testimony of salvation as a child and about growing up in a racially divided area. Rodney was called in to the ministry at 15, and his father worked to getting involved in preaching in jails in Port Athur.

Through the racial tensions he was exposed to growing up, God worked to foster a passion for multi-cultural ministry. This was gradually impressed upon his heart more and more as he grew in understanding and maturity in college at ETBU.

Rodney also share about how the Lord has used pain to help mold him into the man of God he is today. A. W, Tozer said, “To use a man greatly, God must break him deeply.”

Through the death of his father, through an accident in dropping his son as a baby, and general hardship, God has reminded him over and over that God works all things for good (Romans 8:28 - And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose). God also reminds him through Hebrews 5:8 that, “Although he (Jesus) was a son, he learned obedience from what he suffered”

Dr. Rodney Woo shares, “I think sometimes we learn a little bit about God in suffering that we can’t learn about him in prosperity, and blessing, and favor.”
