6995 - Perfection - John 1:3b

In our last study together we briefly examined several Scriptures which authenticated that all of creation was brought into being by Trinity God. The Bible record gives credit for the acts of creation to Jesus Christ, the Son of God.

Today let’s journey back to Genesis for some observations regarding the creation scene.

One verb used in the creation story from the Hebrew is the word “bara”, which carries the meaning of making from nothing, or making something new and perfect. So at original creation God brought forth all material items in space from nothing. This thought calls upon mankind’s faith to understand that everything which was made was originally brought into being from no previous materials, by the very uttered, spoken Word of God.

Consider Psalm 33:6 which says: “By the word of the Lord were the heavens made, their starry host from the breath of his mouth.” Just think, all powerful and all knowing God, had a thought or idea of what He wanted to bring forth, and He spoke and it became a reality. Of course, God is the only being who could ever do this, but with Him this was not impossible.

In fact Hebrews 11:3 explains: “By faith we understand that the universe was formed at God’s command, so that what is [now] seen was not made out of what was visible. Notice this requires action by our heart, not our mind.

Consider that the Greek word “rhema”, used here is the word translated by the English word ‘command’. It denotes words or utterances which came from the mouth of God. Clearly then, God’s original act of creation came about in response to His uttered message from His being.

We mentioned earlier that “bara’ carries the meaning to make something new and perfect. Think for a moment: after creation was completed it was all perfect. There was no imperfection. What beauty must have surrounded the universe.

Seven times in Genesis, chapter one, we are told that certain components of creation were good, so God’s evaluation of the heavens and the earth was positive.

When seeking to understand how God created the heavens and the earth so perfectly and completely, another point to consider is that in Genesis, chapter one, we read that all of creation was completed in six days. These are defined as twenty-four hour days, just like today, by the repeated use of the phrase – and there was evening and there was morning – in each day. This is contrary to scientific theory, but God is not limited. He could create all matter in a short time, contrary to many men’s limited faith.

We conclude that creation was consistent with the character and nature of God. God is perfect, so it is reasonable to accept the fact that God’s creation was also perfect in itself.

We have no indication the time lapse of time in these creation chapters of Genesis as for months or years. The only reference regarding time is the definition of day and specification about the day of creation given in chapter one.

We do not know how long Adam existed before God fashioned Eve to be his companion and helper. How long did they live as man and wife before the entry of sin into this society?

We will consider other facets about creation in future studies.
